Leading Change at the Hong Kong Jockey Club (B):  The Journey to Excellence

These cases describe the transformation of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, beginning in 1996, when Larry Wong took over as CEO, until his retirement in 2006.  It describes Larry Wong's leadership philosophy and his approach to change.  Key events and challenges in the transformation process are described.

The Portman Ritz Carlton Shanghai: Asia's Best Employer. 

This case describes the Managing Director's effort to build a world-class service organization.  The challenges of building a service organization in China; developing and empowering employees; and rewarding and retaining your best employees are addressed.  Published in the IMD case series, 2002 (IMD-4-0262, available at www.ecch.com,).

These cases describe the Manila Water Company, a company created by the Ayala Corporation when it won the franchise to deliver Manila's municipal water supply.  The challenge of changing the culture of the previously public-owned and government run company to a commercially viable operation is addressed.  The A case describes the early days of MWC and asks students to role-play the President of MWC and describe what they would do next.  The B cases describes what changes the President made.  These cases are published in the Harvard Business School Case Series, 2000 (#9-401-014 & 9-401-015, available at www.hbsp.harvard.edu).
